Oil City Roller Derby is Edmonton’s only mixed gender flat track roller derby league, offering both full contact and low contact roller derby. We invite adults of all genders and identities to join us for our Winter Recruitment Week to learn all about this fast-paced sport.
September 17th from 6:00 to 7:30pm we’ll meet in Spike’s (in the Sportsdome) for an information night. We’ll give you an opportunity to learn everything you need to know about getting started with roller derby. There will be plenty of time to ask questions, fill out the necessary paperwork, and reserve your gear for Thursday night.
Then come back on September 19th for a chance to strap on some gear and hit the track! Our experienced league members will be by your side to teach you the basics and answer any questions you have about skating or derby in general.
Never roller skated before? No problem! Most of our players and recruits have no former skating experience, so you’ll be in good company. We also have gear for you to borrow so you don’t need to make any big decisions (or purchases) until you’re sure this is the sport for you. The first two weeks of skating with us is risk free too! Payment for the program isn’t due until the end of the two week trial period, when you decide whether or not you want to commit to the sport. If you decide derby isn’t the sport for you, no harm done. You have nothing to lose by giving it a try!
If you have any questions, or for further information email us at [email protected] or check out the Facebook Event Page!
